The textile industry in the Netherlands

The Dutch market works differently from the Central European manufacturing countries, and it is worth being straightforward about it: most Dutch textile companies are brands, private-label buyers, importers and distributors rather than volume manufacturers. For a mill this means the conversation is usually about private-label programmes, sampling and consistent repeat quality rather than raw tonnage. The second role the Netherlands plays is logistical — Rotterdam is Europe's largest port, and a share of the fabric that enters through it is destined for onward distribution across the EU rather than for Dutch production.

Dutch textile activity is concentrated around Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tilburg and the Twente region around Enschede. We ship to the Netherlands from Istanbul on road freight from istanbul, or sea freight to rotterdam, and under the EU-Turkey customs union industrial goods move without customs duty provided a valid A.TR certificate accompanies the shipment.

Buying jersey fabric to the Netherlands — common questions

What is the minimum order for jersey fabric?
50 kg per colour. That is a deliberately low threshold: it lets a Dutch buyer test a quality and a shade on a real production run before committing to a full season. Stock colours are dispatched from Istanbul in 2-5 working days.
How long does delivery to the Netherlands take?
5-7 working days by road · 10-14 days by sea once the goods leave Istanbul, road freight from istanbul, or sea freight to rotterdam. Add 2-5 working days for stock colours to be prepared, or 10-15 working days if the order requires custom dyeing.
We are a brand, not a manufacturer — can we still buy fabric from you?
Yes, and it is a common arrangement with Dutch customers. Brands buy the fabric from us and nominate it to their own cut-and-sew partner, which keeps control of quality and colour with the brand rather than the garment factory. We can ship to your converter directly and invoice you, or ship to you and let you allocate it.
Can you ship to Rotterdam for onward EU distribution?
Yes. For volumes where the transit time matters less than the freight cost, sea to Rotterdam at 10-14 days is the cheaper route, and it suits buyers who are redistributing across several EU countries rather than feeding one factory. For anything time-sensitive, road at 5-7 days remains the better option.
Do I pay customs duty on Turkish fabric?
No, provided the shipment is accompanied by a valid A.TR movement certificate. Turkey and the EU form a customs union for industrial products, and knitted fabric falls within it. We issue the A.TR with every EU shipment as standard, along with the commercial invoice, packing list and transport document.
Can you match a specific Pantone colour?
Yes. Custom Pantone or RAL dyeing is available from 50 kg per colour and takes 10-15 working days including production. This is the standard route for brand programmes that have to hit a fixed corporate shade.
Can I get a sample before ordering?
Yes, and we recommend it. We send a physical sample free of charge — with a knitted fabric, hand feel and pile height are things you have to touch, and no photograph or screen colour settles the question.
What certifications do you hold?
The dyehouse we work with operates to GOTS, BCI and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, the class that covers articles in direct contact with babies' skin. Documents are provided on request. Please note we do not hold GRS certification and do not claim it.
