Scope, limits and how to verify them

Yes — with one distinction we state openly. The certificates are held by the facility that dyes and finishes our fabrics; they are issued in that facility's name, not ours. In the Turkish knit fabric industry dyeing is almost always done at specialist dye houses, so this structure is the norm rather than an exception.

What it means in practice: the fabric you buy from us has passed through a process within that scope, and we send you the document on request. That is the difference from a supplier who says "we are certified" but cannot produce the paperwork.

Class I is the strictest level of OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and is defined for baby articles: the limit values are markedly lower than for adult apparel. The compositions covered across the fabrics we produce:

• 100% cotton · viscose · cotton/elastane · viscose/elastane · cotton/modal
• Cotton/polyester blends — including brushed three-thread fleece
• 100% polyester — including polar fleece and welsoft
• Polyester/elastane knits
• Reactive- and disperse-dyed fabrics, and printed fabrics

Certificates are renewed annually. Before ordering, ask for the validity date of the current document — this is a standard request that any serious supplier should meet.

This is the point buyers most often miss. A facility holding a GOTS scope certificate does not prove that the batch shipped to you is GOTS. Proof for the batch is the Transaction Certificate (TC), issued per order.

So if you are producing GOTS goods you must say so when placing the order. The TC process starts at order time and cannot be issued retroactively. Tell us and we will set up the flow and send the certificate with the shipment.

We do not hold GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and we make no recycled-content claims. We state this plainly because the most common problem in textiles is implying a certificate you do not have. If recycled polyester is a requirement, work with a GRS-certified supplier.

A certification claim is a document, not a sentence. Whoever you buy from, ask for these four:

1. The document itself — with certificate number, issuing body and validity date visible.
2. The scope — which processes (dyeing, knitting, printing) and which compositions does it cover? A certificate does not extend to fabric outside its scope.
3. Who holds it — the supplier, or the facility they work with? The second is normal, but it must be disclosed.
4. A Transaction Certificate for GOTS — per order.

If a supplier cannot answer these four clearly, the certification claim is a marketing line.

The certificates above are issued in the dyehouse's name — normal in this industry, but it needs to be said. Two records are registered to the company itself and can be verified independently:

• Exporters' association member registration no: 65135 — Istanbul Apparel Exporters' Association (İHKİB), under the Secretariat General of the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Associations (İTKİB).

You can confirm this record through the TİM membership lookup or Türkiye's e-Devlet portal using our legal name (ALTUNKAYA KUMAŞÇILIK SAN. VE DIŞ TİC. LTD. ŞTİ.).

To be clear: association membership is not a quality certificate. Membership in an exporters' association is a legal requirement for exporting from Türkiye; the record only shows that you are dealing with a registered, traceable exporter — it says nothing about the fabric itself.
