Which Plush Fabric for Which Toy?
In short: For baby-safe toys (ages 0-3), choose short-pile plush/velour (1-3mm pile, tight knitted backing) — safer against pull-out risk. For standard soft toys and teddy bears (age 3+), long-pile sherpa or printed plush (5-10mm) gives a fuller, more realistic texture. Altunkaya Tekstil produces both at our own facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul: sheared plush at 270-280 gsm and sherpa/long-pile plush at 290-310 gsm, 100% polyester, in OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certified production.

Fabric Safety & EU Toy Regulation
Fabric certification is one input to toy safety — the finished toy still needs its own testing.
The EU Toy Safety Regulation requires finished soft toys to comply with EN 71-1 (mechanical/physical safety, including fiber and small-parts risk), EN 71-2 (flammability) and EN 71-3 (chemical migration limits). Our plush and sherpa fabrics are produced in OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certified facilities — the strictest OEKO-TEX class, covering baby and infant products and restricting harmful substances — which supports your chemical-safety case. It does not replace EN 71 testing: that must be carried out on the finished toy by an accredited lab (e.g. SGS, Eurofins, TÜV). We share OEKO-TEX documentation on request to support your test submissions.
Choosing Pile Height by Age Grade
Ages 0-3 (Baby Toys)
Short-pile plush or velour (1-3mm) with a strong knitted backing minimizes the risk of loose fibers being pulled out — validate with your own EN 71-1 testing on the finished toy.
Ages 3+ (Standard Soft Toys)
Longer-pile sherpa, curly teddy-style fabric and printed plush give a fuller, more expressive texture — popular for character plush, mascots and premium teddy bears.
